No. 6 Rue de General De Gaulle, which houses La Galerie de Gabriel is not just any old house on the main street of Oradour Sur Vayres. In fact, it is the oldest home in the town, dating from the early 16th century and was indeed a 'maison noble' standing in its own extensive grounds until the town grew up around it.
In the 17th Century it was the home of Gabriel de la Pisse, who was a squire to a knight and raised 8 children in the house. It is truly a house with a soul. Many who come here feel embraced by the calm tranquillity within....
500 years of French history have unfolded around it and every century has left its impressions on the building. From grand house to post revolution accommodation for the working man. It has seen it all. Traces of its noble past such as the wonderful 16th century fireplace in the Gallery is evidence of its past grandeur but there are many more secrets to be uncovered within its meter thick walls.
A courtyard with an ...... view of the southern facade gives access to Les Papillions (The Butterflies), an excellent Salon du The next door.
It really is a wonderful location for artists. An interesting, historic building with lots of northern light! A calm, welcoming atmosphere in the heart of a small French town. It just couldn't be better! Come and see for yourself.
